Minecraft is a popular game. Before we look into how Minecraft became popular, we must look into the magnitude of its popularity. Minecraft has the most users out of all computer games, with 191 million users as of 2024. An event that demonstrated Minecraft’s immense player base happened on December 15, 2021. A video was uploaded on YouTube’s official channel. The video had about a trillion views on Youtube only with Minecraft contents. Minecraft was the first game that reached 1 trillion views on Youtube only with one game content.

There are mainly two reasons why Minecraft became popular. The first reason is that Minecraft  has a different gameplay compared to other games. There is no specific genre in Minecraft, because players can survive in the wild with Survival mode, or  they can build anything they want with Creative mode. In addition, players can  participate in player-made servers that are unique. This diversity brings about contents that are specific to an individual player. Finally, Minecraft has a unique texture. Minecraft has a 16x texture. This small texture makes each pixel appear very big.

The second reason behind Minecraft’s popularity is the Internet. Minecraft became popular as people started to upload content about it  on the internet. People who played Minecraft posted their Minecraft activities on the internet and told others that Minecraft was enjoyable. In other words, a lot of people found Minecraft through the internet. Many popular YouTubers started to upload contents about Minecraft. There are many Youtube contents in Minecraft because players can do anything they want in Minecraft. As a result, there are many types of Minecraft youtubers. For example, YouTubers upload content about playing survival modes, playing the most famous mini game server, Hypixel, playing  with others, and building structures in Minecraft. These are the reasons why Minecrat provides good content that allows  YouTubers to make a lot of videos with a single game.
