On March 4th, 2024, Apple announced their newest Mac product: the M3 MacBook Air. This new generation of Macs had many changes to its core system, including the new M3 chip and improved system capabilities. The main design of the M3 MacBook Air is similar to the design of its predecessor, the M2. The computer comes with two display sizes: The 13 inch (33.5cm) and the 15 inch (38.9 cm), and has the colors starlight, midnight, space gray, and silver.
The prices of the new Mac Air generation has gone up $100, with the base M3 generation costing $1,099 for the 13 inch, and $1,299 for the 15 inch, compared to the M2’s $999 for the 13 inch and $1,199 for the 15 inch. This Mac has two thunderbolt ports and a fanless design, inspired by the first M1 generation. The fanless design enables the laptop to work quietly and without any distractions, which improves focus and concentration for the people using it.
While the exterior design of the new Mac seems to be identical to its precursor, the interior software, functions, and capabilities have major differences. The M3 Mac had enhanced performance speeds, with it being 1.6 times faster than the M1 generation, and 13 times faster than the Intel lineup. This is thanks to the powerful M3 chip, which allows the computer to maintain incredible performance speeds. The M3 chip increases gaming performance in macs as well, as it has many functions and tools such as dynamic caching and hardware accelerated ray tracing functions that promote better graphics and performance. The M3 MacBook Air also has faster Wi-Fi, as it supports Wi-Fi 6E. This helps achieve up to 2 times faster Wi-Fi speed than the M2 generation, which has Wi-Fi 6 support.
Another major change that the M3 has that its predecessors do not is the extensive external monitor compatibility. This means that you can display a maximum of two external monitors connected to the Mac when the Mac is closed. The M3 generation boasts a long battery life of up to 18 hours, which is long enough for the laptop to survive a whole day without charging.
The M3 also hosts a variety of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools across many different apps, such as Capcut, Goodnotes, and Pixelmator Pro. The addition of AI in the Mac gives additional support to Mac users. The new M3 MacBook Air has become more advanced with improvements and new tools. I hope that in the future, Apple may create more products that have astounding and impressive features like the M3.
