This 2024 fall semester, new students and 9th graders received a warm welcome into CCAS high school through a bowling event, where students had fun bowling while conversing with one another and making new friends and memories.
The bowling event was a Knock Knock event hosted by NHS and SBC. Knock Knock is a NHS and SBC subcommittee devoted to helping out new students with their school surroundings through fun and entertaining events, from organizing roof top barbecues to hosting exam study zoom sessions.
The event began after school on Friday with a friendly dinner via two different restaurants. Students had friendly conversations with each other as they enjoyed their meals. After having a nice dinner, students headed off to the bowling alley via the subway.
Once situated there, bowling groups were formed and students started to bowl in multiple different lanes ranging from one to twelve. Gutters, strikes, spares, you name it! Scoreboards revealed various different results as bowling balls hurled through the lanes. The students enjoyed the experience, and the atmosphere was friendly and ecstatic. Some would cheer or give congratulations whenever a student in their group scored a strike.
After about an hour of playing, it was time for dismissal. Everyone stopped and cleaned up. After a group photo was taken, everyone departed saying their farewell goodbyes, and the pleasant bowling event ended.
Interviews were conducted on one new student and one 9th grader student in order to know more about them and to reflect on the bowling event itself.

Q: Was the bowling event fun? If so, what made it enjoyable?
Oh: Yeah It was fun. Going out with my friends and having dinner together was enjoyable. Having to meet new people I think was like the most interesting part.
Q: How does it feel like to be a high school student after graduating from middle school last year?
Oh: It’s like experiencing new things such as new classes, like biology and CS50. It’s also very nerve racking.
Q: What is your favorite subject at this school and why?
Oh: My favorite subject I think is Bible because you get to learn more about God and you can connect with him.

Q: Was the bowling event fun? If so, what made it enjoyable?
Jung: The Bowling event for me was really fun. I can chill out with my friends and play some bowling and I could get more friends and chat with them. I liked that the event was a chance to encourage the new students to have new friends and adjust to the new school and I think that’s a very good part for the event and its purpose.
Q: Do you enjoy cornerstone far? What do you like about this school?
Jung: Yeah I’m really enjoying it. School life is a little tough, but I’m enjoying it. For the school I really like that I can customize my schedules, and that I can choose what I want to do.
Q: Which previous school did you come from?
Jung: I came from Phileo.
Q: What is your favorite subject in cornerstone and why?
Jung: My favorite subject is Final Cut Pro, and I learned a new video editing program. I can engage with video editing and I am really looking forward to with what I will learn in that class.
