The 9th graders have just had their first midterm exams as high school students. Well done (hopefully), the official babies of CCAS high school.

So… what do they think about being in high school?

Q: Please introduce yourself.

Kwak: My name is Yena Kwak. I am attending Cornerstone as a 9th grader. I am not that interested in my studies.

Q: How is 9th grade going so far?

Kwak: It seems both different and similar with previous grades. The amount of homework and tasks have increased, … however, the level of tests seem similar.

Q: How did your midterms go? Did you do better than you expected or worse than you expected?

Kwak: For some subjects, it was good and for some subjects, it was fine. I underestimated some subjects because I didn’t expect that difficult level of tests. For instance, for physics, no one got an A in our class.

Q: What are the differences between middle and high school midterms?

Kwak: The difference in high school is that my grades go into my college applications.

Q: Please introduce yourself.

Lee: My name is Hwanho Lee. I’m a 9th grader, and I’m starting to get the hang of high school life.

Q: How is 9th grade going so far?

Lee: I doubt that adjusting to high school, this new environment has been easy for any of us. But the support from fellow students and teachers has been incredible. Their positive energy has played a big role in making this quarter manageable. I believe that’s one of the main reasons why my experience so far has been more positive than I expected.

Q: How did your midterms go? Did you do better than you expected or worse than you expected?

Lee: My midterm grades have proven to me time and time again that I am not a STEM person. It has become a chance for me to reflect on what subjects I need to spend more time on and what subjects I’m capable at. I think it will be a great experience that will allow me to improve for future tests and exams.

Q: What are the differences between middle and high school midterms?

Lee: In middle school, grades don’t hold much weight, making the experience feel lighter. However, in high school, a poor test score impacts your record, which adds a level of seriousness that I wasn’t used to.

Q: Please introduce yourself.

Park: Hello, I am Sam Park. I like to play soccer and hang out with my friends. I also like to play the guitar.

Q: How is 9th grade going so far?

Park: I think 9th grade is going quite well. I thought it would be very hard, but now I feel comfortable. I think high school is way better than middle school.

Q: How did your midterms go? Did you do better than you expected or worse than you expected?

Park: My midterm went a little worse than I expected. Subjects that I tried my best studying went very bad. However, the subjects that I did not study well, went very well. I hope I can get a better grade on the final exam.

Q: What are the differences between middle and high school midterms?

Park: I think the main difference between middle and high school midterms is information. In middle school, the teachers provided more information about the exam through the study guides. However, in high school, there is less information given by the teachers about the exam.
