Have you ever wished you could give your quiz or test scores a boost? This semester, Cornerstone decided to offer AP students a second chance. AP class students could retake the quizzes and tests they wanted during the week right after Chuseok Holiday, which is an incredible opportunity to strengthen your understanding and improve your grades!

For most of the classes, your new grade is averaged between the original score and the retake score. However, for science and math departments, the rule is different. Since some of the quizzes and tests have either been discussed in class or have their answers available on College Board, the teachers provided different sets of questions based on the same content. What’s more important, science and math classes decided to fully replace the grade with the newly taken quiz or test.

While most students seem satisfied with the new opportunity to retake quizzes and tests, some may feel disappointed if their scores ended up lower than before. To evaluate the effectiveness of the new one-time retake option, we interviewed several students who participated in the AP retake test.

What are your thoughts on the AP quiz retake opportunity?

Rachel Pai (G11): Because the AP courses were rigorous and tightly scheduled, many students had some difficulties with keeping up with their grades which is why the AP retakes seem to be a good opportunity. Students I believe who worked hard deserve a second chance to get a better grade.

Ashley Choi (G12): Finally … Because of this I can go to college!! Everyone needs a second chance. We took two quizzes every day and performed well.”

Marvin Lim (G12): Everyone deserves a second chance.

Kai Kang (G12): Basically, I think it’s a great opportunity to go to college.

Seoyeon Ko (G12): I think we definitely need more, and appreciate teachers for giving us a second chance.
