This fall, the movie Wicked 1 caught the attention of audiences. The film is based on the popular Broadway musical and directed by Jon M.Chu. The story is about Elphaba, a girl with green skin, and Glinda, a bright and popular student in their school. They meet at school and form an unexpected friendship. Though their different personalities sometimes cause conflict, they grow together and start to find their own paths. Wicked 1 is a fun and meaningful movie that explores themes of friendship and growth.
This winter, the movie Wicked 2: For Good continues the story in a deeper and more emotional way as Elphaba and Glinda face new challenges while deciding their futures. Elphaba tries to do what is right, even when people continue to call her wicked and misunderstand her. Glinda learns to be brave, tell the truth, or help change Oz which is the world in the movie for the better. As the story moves forward, the world around them grows more complicated, and they must figure out what they truly believe in. Many people who watched the movie think that the second film leaves a stronger impression than the first. I agree because the second film delivers more emotions. It has more major character turning points. For example, Elphaba reaches a big turning point when she chooses that moment to prove he is “good” and instead accepts how the world sees her, using that moment to escape and protect the ones she loves. The movie also reminds us that even if friends go in different directions, their relationship can still remain. With its exciting scenes, beautiful music, and clear answers to questions from the first movie, Wicked 2 has a vision of becoming the best film that I think is worth watching this season.
