This March, Cornerstone Broadway made history by performing our school’s very first musical, titled Why Only Me. The interesting part is that this wasn’t just a typical play. It was a 100% original production created by our own school students and dedicated teachers. They wrote the entire story which is about a student who feels like she is the only one struggling, but eventually realizes that their friends and others are also facing similar challenges. Moreover, the play had a live band of seven students who not only performed but also composed all the music based on their creative melodies. Creating something by themselves was definitely not an easy task for everyone. However, from writing the script to designing the costumes, every detail came from their own brilliant ideas and hard work.

As many people expected, the musical was a huge success that exceeded all expectations. In addition to the amazing performance on stage, all of the musical participants offered some special things for the audience as souvenirs. One of the biggest things was the limited edition photo cards which have the actor’s personal signature. It was a great opportunity to communicate with the audience and also the actors and other participants. The audience really liked those souvenirs and they paid attention to them.
Everyone seemed to be very happy and enjoying the musical. It was a great chance for the school community and also all of the students. The musical was finally successful and all of the actors and instrumentalists increasingly improved compared to when they first started to practice the musical. This first performance proved that Cornerstone’s students who participate in the musical have lots of talent and passion. Based on this great success, our school is already excited to see what kind of amazing stories these students will tell in the future.

We were able to reach out some of the musical crew for some questions.
Ms. Grace Lee (director / Broadway club advisor): “It was such a fun and happy project for all of us. I am so glad I could be a part of this amazing team. We worked hard together and learned so much from each other. It was a really wonderful experience that I will never forget.”
Jisung Jang (“Austin” on stage): It was a wonderful experience for me and the entire school. I never expected the musical to be on such a grand scale, but the final result was really nice and special. By helping each other and practicing togther, I could really grow as a person. It was a special day for me and I will never forget that day.”
