In today’s world, the significance of researchers in biology is extensively recognized.  Indeed, a country’s influence in Biological innovation determines its overall influence. Thus, the importance of technological possession in Biology increased, leading to an influx in investments. Today, the most prominent technologies are: CRISPR / Cas9 / Next-gen long read sequencing / Microbiome-targeting cancer vaccine.

CRISPR/Cas9 technology is expected to rise in significance in the future. CRISPR/Cas9 will allow us to edit the DNA information. That means we can select favorable traits by editing the DNA. DNA information is expected to be used for disease resistance and agricultural advancement. CRISPR technology is currently studied by many researchers and few researchers performed meaningful results. Researchers experimented on the animal samples, transplanting fixed cells. The result helped animals to be resistant to the disease. Not only with the example above but there are thousands of researches on–going even right now. Understanding biotechnology will benefit the human race as a whole.

Next-generation long read sequencing is a technology that reads the  sequence of DNA in detail, and a lot. Present sequencing technology had limitations of reading long sequences with good accuracy. next-gen long read sequencing allows us to work better with the fully collected data and interpretation of the sequence. Besides that, next-gen sequencing, abbreviated from next-generation long read sequencing, is expected to be working along with CRISPR. CRISPR requires an accurate sequence decipher technique to have a more extensive range of its technology. So as next-gen sequencing develops, we expect innovations to follow in the other areas of biotechnology.

Microbiome-targeting cancer vaccine is a vaccine that targets the microbiome; a group of microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria that catalyzes the cancer growth. The vaccine, in detail, targets antigens of the microbiome. With the vaccine, we can regulate the production of neoantigens; mutational proteins newly produced by the cancer cell. If we can regulate the production of neoantigens, then car-T cells can easily recognize the cancer cells and effectively remove it from the body. Thus, it will allow us to cure more ranges of cancers that were struggled with the past technologies by extending car-T cell recognition ranges.


Understanding biotechnology and utilizing it will be the most important thing for future humans. As time has guided us to the advancement of technology, there have been many alterations in the studies considered to be the most important. In the 21st century, biotechnology has the possibility of being the dominant force of human progression. In this important moment when the flow of biotechnology has begun, we better be aware of future innovations expected.
