Minecraft is famous for being serious about April Fool’s Day. Mojang Studios, developer of Minecraft, makes silly updates every April Fool’s Day. For example, Minecraft updated 2,147,483,647 new dimensions (playable “worlds”) that can be accessed by throwing an item book and quill that can be customized by writing the name of the dimension in the book. Last year, Minecraft published the Vote Update. The gameplay of this update revolves around a voting system, in which players could choose scenarios that would change how players play Minecraft. This year, Minecraft launched the Poisonous Potato Update for April Fool’s Day.
This update involves everything about poisonous potatoes. It added the poisonous potato dimension, which is made out of poisonous potato blocks. We can access the dimension through a potato portal, which we can find with a potato eye. Almost every mob was retextured to resemble a poisonous potato. Weapons such as potato armors, elytras, and grappling guns were added.
The potato portal, in which the poisonous potato dimension can be accessed, is made up of numerous potato blocks, such as peelgrass blocks, terre de pomme blocks, potones, poison paths, taterstones, and so on. There are even potato stem blocks that can be turned into bright, vibrant green planks, slabs, stairs, fences, and more. The dimension does not have bedrock, which prevents players from falling into the void. Monsters were retextured into poisonous potatoes. There are also villages populated with potato villagers. This dimension has multiple biomes all made of poisonous potatoes.
The item named potato eye leads the player to the structure that has a boss mob named Mega Spud. Mega Spud moves around like a mob slime. When it detects a player, mega spud starts shooting fireballs at them, like a mob ghast. Mega Spud has 10 phases. Whenever a new phase begins, Mega Spud creates a shield around itself, and becomes invulnerable to all forms of damage. Also, it shrinks by about half a block, and gets slightly faster. The shield is breakable by killing all the minions that Mega Spud had spawned. If the Mega Spud is dead, it drops an item named Potatiesh, Greatstaff of the Peasant. It is used to go into the poisonous potato dimension any time when the player wants.
There are more features that are included in the Poisonous Potato Update. You can try them by playing on your own. It is playable by changing the version to snapshot, “24w14potato” in the launcher.
