People in Korea eagerly await the end of the cold winter. One of the most pleasant signs of spring’s arrival in Korea is the beautiful cherry blossoms. Although these trees were planted by the Japanese during their occupation in the 1900s, the cherry blossoms bring joy to many instead of reminding them of this sad history. Since then, Korea has become a popular travel destination, loved by nature enthusiasts for the cherry blossoms that bloom all over the nation. Korea’s cherry blossom season normally begins on the first week of April, and lasts for about 10-12 days until the next rain comes, and here are some of the best spots in Korea to enjoy the cherry blossoms:

Lake Seokchon:

Located in Jamsil, in Seoul’s Songpa District, the lake is uniquely surrounded by beautiful skyscrapers like Lotte Tower. The fantastic beauty of spring, with over a thousand cherry blossoms spanning 2.6 kilometers, creates a scenery so captivating that it attracted around 569,000 visitors last year and is expecting more than 2.5 million visitors this year.

Yeouido, Yunjung-ro:

The “Yeouido Spring Flower Festival” in Yeongdeungpo District in western Seoul is also one of the most popular cherry blossom festival spots in Korea, where visitors can walk through cherry blossoms beside the Han River. This festival boasts almost 2,000 cherry blossom trees spanning over 1.7 kilometers, creating a beautiful cherry blossom tunnel.
Yangjae Citizen Forest:

For the Yangjae Citizen Forest, cherry blossom trees are lined up next to the river, so we can see the cherry blossoms on both sides– making them look like cherry blossom tunnels. Also, there is a beautiful bridge for people to take beautiful pictures on. Inside the Yangjae Citizen Forest, there is the Yangjaecheon Stream, which is shown as environmentally friendly. The reason why Yangjae Citizen Forest is so beautiful is that many of the couples are taking wedding photos here.

Jungmun, Jeju:

The beauty of nature expressed through cherry blossoms, signaling the arrival of spring, bursts not only in Seoul but also in Jeju Island. Located in the Jungmun Tourist Complex of Jeju Island, the main street is adorned with many beautiful cherry blossom trees, followed by other flowers such as Japanese apricot blossoms and rape flowers.

Bomun Jung:

Gyeongju is known to be one of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Korea, especially around Bomunjung. In Bomunjung, there is a serene lake, and Bomunjeong provides a picturesque backdrop for the cherry blossoms. The beautiful harmony of the pavilion, pond, and trees creates such amazing scenery. Additionally, this place holds cultural significance as other countries recognize the beauty of Korea’s cherry blossoms. Therefore, the government allocates funds to subsidize airport ticket prices, encouraging tourism to witness this natural wonder.
Gyeongpodae:

Near Donghae Harbor, overlooking the beautiful blue sea, Gangwon Province heralds spring with the Gyeongpo Cherry Blossom Festival. The festival offers activities that not only provide a picnic destination during the season but also enchant visitors with unforgettable memories. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the festival in the evening, as it features an LED Wish Tree Event.
