What kind of mindset do you have when you play volleyball?
When I play volleyball, I make every effort to show my skills. Because our team is new and the players have just recently learned how to play volleyball, I try to guide the team so that they can try out all of their skills. For the time being, I believe that if we continue to practice and strengthen our existing skills, the results will come automatically.
What is volleyball to you?
Volleyball is a source that keeps my heart beating. Even after a long day of taking tests, just thinking of playing volleyball makes me feel energized and vibrant. I enjoy volleyball so much that I spend most of my leisure time watching games and learning the techniques.
What’s your signature move?
My signature move would be the hand I raise before serving. I make a fist before serving, reminding myself to put on power so that the opposite team won’t be able to get it.
What is your motivation?
Compared to last year’s varsity team, the players are more skilled and driven to win. Looking at them pushed me to develop as many skills as possible during practice and games, as well as to appropriately lead them so that the team could win. I learn a lot from watching the players, and I want to be a source of inspiration for them to play volleyball.
Who inspires you?
When it comes to volleyball, Ms. Ahn, Ms. N Kim, and Mr. Bin are my biggest inspirations. Ms. Ahn does her best to teach our team as much as possible so that we could get the most from each practice and game. Ms. N Kim and Mr. Bin visit our games and cheer loudly so that we don’t get discouraged by anything. Three teachers work together to create as many opportunities as possible for us to demonstrate our abilities. Their hard work and dedication motivates me to devote more time and effort to leading the team and playing volleyball.
What was one of the most memorable moments during a game?
Our team has just played a few games in the preseason league. Before the league, our only activity as a team was a tryout. We had never played or practiced as a team. However, during the preseason league, we were able to win one set against Fayston. The result was particularly impressive given that our team had only won one set throughout the whole last season. I want the players to remember how we felt when we won the set and use that experience to prepare for the game.
How did teamwork help your team lead to the win?
Our athletes follow Ms. Ahn and me very well. They are always prepared to learn and play games. I believe the fact that everyone works hard to get the ball and get it over will help our team win.
Are you satisfied with your result? If not, what would you like to have done differently?
Since we only had preseason league games, I am excited to see how we will progress over the season. We are ready to demonstrate all we have learned and practiced during the game, so please come and cheer us on.
Captain: Youngbin Seo
What kind of mindset do you have when you play volleyball?
A team without any medals, our volleyball team improved a lot after I joined as the team captain. The changes I made in the team were not volleyball skills. It was teaching them how to love the school, take responsibility as an athlete, and ignite their spirit with our own chant that I made for our team. It’s because I already believed in their abilities. What I wanted to change was the results that could differ based on our attitudes, not results based on our skills.
What is volleyball for you?
Volleyball is a driving force of life. Anytime I got stuck in my life, just playing volleyball and touching a ball gave a reason for my life. How hard life was, how difficult the class or test was, volleyball provided me a reason.
What’s your signature move?
Obviously spiking. Since my position is an outside hitter, I shine when I spike the ball. Also a great spike during a game changes the mood of the game. I talk with my teammates for communication out of the game, and spike to communicate during the game.
What is your motivation?
School spirit is my motivation. Whenever I get tired, I think about my schools and how important my place is. As a volleyball player and captain, I represent my school, my team and our coaches. Through these thoughts I can move a step further.
Ms. Ahn
What’s your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy focuses on helping students stay active and enjoy exercise. I aim to improve their fitness, teach them new skills, encourage teamwork, and make them feel good about being active.
What’s your vision in varsity?
My vision for varsity is to support both the competitive and personal development of the student athletes. My vision includes building teamwork- creating a strong cohesive team that works well together and supporting growth- helping students grow not just as athletes but also as individuals
What is volleyball to you?
Volleyball is like a friend: it pushes me to improve and always pushes me to be the best version of myself
What do you love about your job?
As a teacher and coach, I love the opportunity to inspire and guide students, seeing their growth and achievements both academically and athletically. I enjoy building strong relationships and enjoy witnessing the positive impact of my guidance on their development and confidence.
