Mojang, the company that owns Minecraft, hosts a Minecraft Live every year, an event where developers introduce their upcoming plans and sneak-peeks on Minecraft. This year’s Minecraft Live revealed new upcoming drops, such as a new biome, a new mob, and many more additions. Some of the significant additions from this live event will be reviewed here.
A new biome and new blocks
The new biome that Mojang has announced in the live event is called “The Pale Garden,” a forest biome that is dark and pale in color and has a haunting look to it. The new forest biome also introduces new tree-based blocks, such as the pale oak button or slab.
The introduction of these new blocks can be great for the building community within Minecraft as players now have a new variety of blocks at their disposal to decorate and build their creations in their own unique ways. These block types are especially good to use for building creations that portray haunting or unearthly themes such as an abandoned village or a gothic mansion.
However, these materials are usually not good to use for decorating with most of the other blocks in Minecraft or for building aesthetically in most of the other different biomes. This is due to the pale oak materials either having a unique appearance or a pale color, which are characteristics that do not fit well with most of the other blocks and biomes. In the end, the Pale Garden biome addition benefits the general Minecraft community as it further diversifies the game’s biome system, introduces new blocks, and allows users to explore more places within their already-diverse Minecraft world.
New mob: The creaking
In addition to the pale garden, there is also a new hostile mob that will dwell within it, called “The Creaking.” This mob is a monster based off of trees that spawn in the pale gardens during the night. The Creaking has a unique way of attacking, which is to attack players only when the player is facing away from it. And when the player looks at this mob, it will stop attacking and stand still (Kind of like the green light, red light game). Another unique feature about this mob is that it is basically immortal and cannot be harmed through melee attacks, potions, or other damage-dealing factors within the game. This creature can only be vanquished by destroying its heart, which is a block separated from the mob itself. To find and break the heart, one can do it by hitting the Creaking, which will emit a trail that will lead to the heart somewhere hidden within the pale oak trees. Once discovered and broken, the Creaking connected to that heart will disintegrate and disappear. The interesting way in which the Creaking attacks and the way in which one has to destroy it is very creative. Players now have to find new ways to combat this monster instead of the traditional way of fighting face-to-face. However, what is disappointing about this uncommon mob is that, compared to most of the other uncommon hostile mobs in the game, it does not inflict a lot of damage, doing only 1 heart per hit, and only 1.5 hearts in hard mode. Increasing the attack damage of the Creaking would make the gameplay more balanced and even.
Hardcore mode now in Bedrock Edition:
Hardcore mode is a game mode where the player has only one life in one game. If they die, they cannot respawn again. This game mode was only available in Java Edition, a version of Minecraft made only for computers. But in the live event, Mojang has announced that this feature will also be introduced to Bedrock Edition, a different version of Minecraft that, unlike Java Edition, is playable on other electronic platforms (such as on consoles) in addition to computers. (However, Macbooks are not intended to run Bedrock Edition, but Windows computers can.) This much-desired feature will benefit Minecraft players who play in Bedrock Edition, as they can now experience another type of game mode that was not available for them before.
Overall, this year’s Minecraft Live will bring various changes into Minecraft, with some changes having their pros and cons. In the meantime, players can continue to enjoy this game while these drops are waiting to come out.
