Winter Festival is a collective event where each club can show their activities in creative and engaging ways. Last year, the band club and several other clubs performed on the stage by showing their talents in singing and dancing. Other clubs sold hand-made foods and opened many booths that everyone can enjoy. Some clubs held booths that involved making crafts, decorating glasses with pelt stickers, and drawing caricatures of students, while other clubs sold snacks such as fish cake, bungeoppang, and roasted marshmallows with chocolate. Also, there were sports booths where people could enjoy basketball and golf.
I conducted interviews about the Winter Festival with Cornerstone students.
1. What performance or booth is your club planning for the upcoming winter festival? How did you choose this specific booth or performance idea?
Tony Jang(11): Dance Club. We are planning to perform several dances.
Doyeon Kim(11): Green Tiger/ making ooho(오호) / Our club did this last year, but it was successful so we chose this again.
Marvin Lim(11): BADA club. We are planning to conduct a game for the winter festival. During the discussion in the club, we came up with a simple and cheap game, because we had a hard time selling food last semester.
Nael Um(11): Freestyle. We are planning to perform our own song.
Kai Kong(11): Badminton Club
Our club is planning to have a couple of activities that will hopefully be very entertaining. One of the games will essentially be a modified version of Badminton, where you would play Badminton, but the twist is that you would be playing sitting down on a designated location. We will let the participant choose the game mode they want to play in, whether that is a 2 vs. 2 or a 1 vs. 1. Whoever reaches 5 points will win the game, and the winning team or individual will receive a prize.
Our club members actively participated in order to come up with such an idea, and gave creative responses and proposals.
2. What are you most excited about for this year’s winter festival?
Tony Jang(11): Watching other clubs’ performances. I am also looking forward to seeing other students amazed by our club’s fancy performances.
Doyeon Kim(11): Winter festival talent show
Marvin Lim(11): The performance part is the most exciting thing about the winter festival.
Nael Um(11): Talent show / performances
Kai Kong(11): Out of the many things that I am thrilled about this upcoming winter festival, if I had to choose one, I think it would be the interactions the students and perhaps the teachers will have with each other, as they play and enjoy the various activities and performances prepared by each club.
3. What food, game, or activity do you think will be the most popular this year?
Tony Jang(11): Delicious foods/snacks/treats. Honestly, I am having great expectations about what snacks I can have in the winter festival…!!!!!!!
Doyeon Kim(11): I think fish cake or bungeoppang will be the most popular this year.
Marvin Lim(11): I believe the performance will be the most popular activity.
Nael Um(11): Popcorns? Foods!!!!
Kai Kong(11): I think the most popular food will most likely be food that is relevant to our current season, winter (probably hot chocolate).
For games/activities, I think that the ones that are the most interactive will be the most entertaining.
4. How do you think the winter festival benefits the school community?
Tony Jang(11): I think it promotes unity among the students and the teachers. It also gives extra day-off and fun experiences as well!!
Doyeon Kim(11): It makes students connect with each other from freshman to senior. Also, we can learn how to plan the events.
Marvin Lim(11): It helps the school community by promoting several events for our school’s spirit.
Nael Um(11): It makes the school culture healthy by making the atmosphere.
Kai Kong(11): I think that the winter festival creates a great opportunity for both students and teachers to come together as a whole, and really be able to interact with one another outside of academics by playing fun activities and watching exciting performances.
As the interviews show, this event serves as a good opportunity for students to interact with each other and get joy from participation. Furthermore, clubs can collect money that can be used to organize their club activities later. As a near-wrapping-up school event of the semester, winter festival brings excitement and high expectations.
